Churches :

Almost 90% are Roman Catholics; the other denominations include Anglican, Baptist, Christian Science, Church of Christ, Church of the Nazarene, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Methodist, Salvation Army and The Seventh Day Adventist. They all have different meeting times so it is advisable that you call before you attend.


Currency :

Banks are generally open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some banks in the north are even open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar but the U.S. currency is widely accepted.


Climate :

Year-round temperatures range from 65 to 95 degrees (Fahrenheit). June to August is considered to be the hottest period. Coolest months are December and January.

Driving :

We drive on the left side of the road. Visitors must obtain a temporary driving permit from the airports or the Gros Islet police station . These permits are also issued by some major car rental companies.


Electricity :

220-230 volts, 50 cycles a.c.; North American appliances require a transformer and an adapter.

Geography :

The island is a total of 238 square miles; 27 miles long and 14 miles wide. There is the island of Martinique 21 miles to the north, St. Vincent 26 miles to the south and Barbados 100 miles to the east. St. Lucia is made up of the famous volcanic peaks, the only drive in volcano in the world, rainforests in the heart of the island, coastal splendor and so much more that you just have to see for your self.


Government :

Since February 22, 1979, St. Lucia has been an independent state within the British Commonwealth. The island's government is led by a resident governor-general, who is designated by the Queen.

Taxis :

Our well trained taxi drivers are friendly and quite knowledgeable about the island. Prices can be negotiated with the driver if you need a taxi for the whole day.


Television :

HTS Channel 4, DBS Channels 2 and 10 and Cable TV.


Time Differences :

North America 3 to 4 hours behind us, Europe: October to April 4 hours ahead and April to October 5 hours ahead, Asia and the South Pacific up to 16 hours ahead.
